That we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God

Updated: Jun 4, 2020

"For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God."

1 Corinthians 2:11-12

Logic is always a part of Your creation, and it features in Your gospel. I see that through the preaching of Ravi Zacharias, how he presents the gospel in such compelling logic. And I also realised, that the worldly logic will never lead to any definitive answer.

Your word says that the Holy Spirit gives understanding. I believe that word. That understanding does not come by logic, but by the Spirit. To even perceive a miracle, takes a spiritual understanding, because a miracle is not a logical phenomena. And maybe there lies my mis-step in this season, in thinking that mere reasoning with our limited minds would provide corresponding understanding to the spiritual.

But now I see that they work hand in hand, or rather, logic works under the guidance of the Spirit. Science is left at a dead-end about the meaning of Life, while Philosophy leaves men overwhelmed and lost, theology leaves one wondering if that is all it is to divinity. But Your word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, brings about a peace which surpasses all understanding (in the mundane sense of the word). Could that peace, also be a stepping stone by which our faith lands upon? Even without fully understanding Your plans, by Your Spirit, we know that we are Your beloved children. By Your Spirit, we cry out, "Abba Father". By Your Spirit, we can believe, and have peace just knowing (understanding) this fact even when we may not understand all things.

Perhaps this is Spiritual Understanding: understanding the needful things, the things which You have revealed to us.
