The Answer

She was in a bright pink pram, lying in a mess of little pillows and bolsters. Her mum held her milk bottle in place as she cluelessly sucked at the goodness oozing from the tip. Her eyes wandered from her mum to some distant view of one could only guess what. She blinked slowly, her eyes lolling upwards every once in a while, but the milk gushing into her little mouth would wake her, reigniting that passionate sucking.

Immediately, as I gazed at her little frame, I was conscious of her fragility. Her small small head, soft and smooth. Her little feet too tender for the smooth-est of roads. Her little hands too delicate for the lightest of chores. Were a hundred arrows to fly in on her now, I would jump in front of them in a second. In this little frame, there was a purity and an innocence to be protected at all costs. Here was a clean slate. A soul white as snow, absorbent as a sponge, wet with the dew of new life, ready to receive, drain, swallow what the world has to offer. But a potential too, lurks behind. A potential that is imminent and fallen, of a fallen nature that came about from almost another world away. Oh what I would give to prevent any filth from entering that little bundle of glow, how I wish purity was not a fading glory of Man.

Is that how You see me, Father? Is that how Your heart hurt as sin entered into the flesh and forever cut off that purity and sanctity? Yet, not forever, for only You are capable of eternity. And You placed Eternity into Temporality, Eternity took on temporality. From His temporality came forth many many eternalities. The answer to the damning temporality.

Our place of purity is restored. More than restored, but also lifted up. Jesus is glorified because He has not only reconciled us to You, He has lifted up our relationship from that of Creations to Sons & Daughters.

That is the answer of the Gospel to the question of Man. Who are we in this world of vast mystery and unknowns? We are the Known of the Creator, the precious secret of the Father, created for His purpose and His love.
